After the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the Gorkha area of Nepal and the ensuing aftershocks, a secondary hazard is looming throughout the surrounding area: landslides. Time is of the essence as monsoon season quickly approaches and the risk of landslides grows.

Volunteers including representatives from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the NASA SERVIR Applied Sciences Team, along with the British Geological Survey, Nagoya University in Japan, and MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.  of Canada, and more. Together, the volunteers are mapping locations of landslides and potential landslides, identify hazard impacts, and create damage proxy maps that indicate the type and extent of existing damage.
